Session Description
The exponential growth in AI and computing has ignited an unprecedented surge in electricity demand, posing a significant challenge to our current energy infrastructure, particularly the power grid. To meet this challenge head-on, strategic planning, and digital transformation are imperative, ensuring the grid’s resilience and intelligence amidst the ongoing energy transition. Embracing connectivity technologies such as digital twin, IOT, cloud, 5G and even 5G advanced is crucial for facilitating rapid and precise grid balancing, and deploying a robust, secure, and smart communication network during the energy transition and grid upgrade.
However, are we fully prepared to foster the synergy between grid infrastructure and digital innovations? Can we efficiently address the challenges of cost, policy, and technology to drive transformative change? Considering AI is now recognized as a significant factor in energy demand, what role will it play in the grid’s upgrade? Moreover, should we allocate research and development resources to anticipate and address future challenges?
